Clinical Pilates is a precise and highly individualised form of traditional Pilates exercises that focuses on improving the body’s core stabilising muscles to improve strength, endurance, and flexibility of the whole body and to also improve overall health and wellbeing.
Clinical Pilates is specifically tailored to your individual needs by one of our qualified Physiotherapists who has completed formal Pilates training. This means exercises used will be the most effective and safest for your problem areas to ensure the best results. Physiotherapists have used “Pilates” style exercises as a tool for a very long time and often also refer to them as core training, abdominal stabilisation, or spinal stabilisation exercises. This type of exercise can help a skilled Physiotherapist diagnose, treat and reassess musculoskeletal conditions.
Clinical Pilates is a fun and proven way for people of all ages, injured or uninjured, to improve their health and fitness level.
An initial physiotherapy and Pilates screening assessment is first carried out for your physiotherapist to develop your individually tailored Pilates program.
We strongly believe in quality over quantity, so our sessions are 1:1 to provide you with the full attention of your physiotherapist and the ultimate guidance and safety. Private sessions can be booked at a time convenient to you.
Because we understand that exercise can be more fun with a friend, we occasionally allow for small classes of 2-3 people if appropriate once you have a good individual understanding of the exercises.
Our programs use various specialised equipment that include Pilates reformers, exercise balls, balance apparatus, thoracic barrel and floor/ mat work.
1:1 sessions usually run for about 30 minutes. 2:1 or 3:1 run for about 45 minutes.
Results depend on your particular injury, but as a general rule, people who do Pilates 1-2 times per week will see significant improvements by 6-10 weeks. Most people we see report a good result even as early as after 1 or 2 sessions.
As of 1st April 2019, the federal government removed private health insurance rebates for Pilates (including Clinical Pilates), and we cannot use the term “Pilates” when advertising if a private health insurance claim is to be made, so “Pilates” will no longer be claimable. Physiotherapists can however continue to use and claim rebates for Pilates-informed exercises such as core training and abdominal/ spinal stabilisation as we always have. These exercises will now be known as “Physiotherapy Clinical Exercise” and this is claimable on your private health insurance with Physio extras.
